One of the most important things to keep in mind when doing any kind of writing is “who is my audience?”. For the purpose of this wiki the audience is parents, teachers, and other students. This is a wide range of knowledge levels so I am asking that the student contributors do their writing as if the audience has little or no background knowledge in math.
The format for these entries should include the following:
Key Terms: - In this section the students need to identify all terms that are essential for understanding the concept
- The students should also provide clear explanations for each term
- It is important to note that narrative explanations are used here and not definitions. It is not enough to simply copy a definition from a glossary or from a dictionary. It needs to be presented in your own words so that it is clear to the audience
Explanation of the Concept: - In this section the student should provide a brief, but clear explanation of the concept that is being covered
Examples: - Quality examples of the concept being done correctly
- This should include different ways (strategies) of doing the skill (if applicable)
Tutorial: - The students should include a brief tutorial for how to answer questions related to the concept
- This tutorial could take on several different formats (Video, Website, PowerPoint, etc.), but should be clear and help the audience answer questions related to the concept
Sample Problems: - There should be a variety of practice problems provided along with a way of checking answers.
Suggested or Other Resources:
- In this section students can show links or other resources that they think were useful to them and would be useful to others in their learning of the concept.
